Abstract
Bu çalışma yabancılaşmanın umutsuzluk ile ilişkisini incelemeyi ve yabancılaşmanın umutsuzluk üzerindeki etkisini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Yabancılaşan bireylerin kendilerine, başkalarına, geleceklerine dair başarı beklentilerini yitirmeleri ve umutsuzluğa düşmeleri söz konusu olabilmektedir. Bu kapsamda 17-24 yaşlarında olan 273 gençten anket tekniği ile veri toplanmıştır. Ankette Beck’in umutsuzluk ölçeği ve Dean’in yabancılaşma ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda, yabancılaşma ve umutsuzluk boyutlarının her birinin arasında bir korelasyonun olduğuna ve yabancılaşma yaşayan gençlerin umutsuzluk düzeylerinde bir artış olabileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Özellikle bir yabancılaşma boyutu olan güçsüzlük boyutunun gençlerin umutsuz hissetmelerini açıklayan en önemli yabancılaşma boyutu olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bireylerin gelecek beklentilerini içeren bilişsel umutsuzluk boyutu ise diğer umutsuzluk boyutlarına göre yabancılaşmadan daha çok etkilenmektedir.

Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between alienation and hopelessness and to reveal the effect of alienation on hopelessness. Alienated individuals may lose their expectations of success for themselves, others and their future and fall into hopelessness. In this context, data were collected from 273 young people aged between 17-24 years with the questionnaire technique. Beck's hopelessness scale and Dean's alienation scale were used in the survey. As a result of the study, it was concluded that there is a correlation between each of the dimensions of alienation and hopelessness and that there may be an increase in the hopelessness levels of young people experiencing alienation. In particular, it was determined that the powerlessness dimension, which is a dimension of alienation, is the most important alienation dimension explaining the hopelessness of young people. The cognitive hopelessness dimension, which includes the future expectations of individuals, is more affected by alienation than other dimensions of hopelessness.
