THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GENDER PERCEPTION AND ATTITUDES OF FAMILY PLANNING OF NURSING STUDENTS

Abstract

The use of family planning methods is very important for the protection and maintenance of mother, child and community health. However, the use of family planning methods is still not at the desired level. This study was conducted by descriptive and correlational design to examine the relationship between gender perception and family planning attitudes of nursing students. 344 students were included in the study. The data was collected by using personal information form, Family Planning Attitude Scale and Gender Perception Scale. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t test in independent groups, chi-square, Oneway ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. The mean score of Family Planning Attitude Scale was 102.01 ± 15.87, and the mean score of Gender Perception Scale was 128.50 ± 26.94 and they had positive attitudes towards gender and family planning. However, female students had more equitable attitudes than male students and their family planning attitudes were more positive. There was a positive relationship between gender perception and family planning attitude, and family planning attitudes of students with equitable perception were more positive.
