Abstract
Bu çalışma, bir üniversitede öğrenim gören hemşirelik öğrencilerinin yaşlı ayrımcılığına ilişkin tutumlarını ve etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi amacıyla planlandı.
Tanımlayıcı tipteki araştırmanın örneklemini, 1-5 Kasım 2021 tarihlerinde Türkiye’nin batısında bulunan bir üniversitede öğrenim gören hemşirelik öğrencileri (n:307) oluşturdu. Veri toplama aracı olarak Kişisel Bilgi Formu ve Yaşlı Ayrımcılığı Tutum Ölçeği kullanıldı. Verilerin analizinde, sayı ve yüzdelik hesapları, aritmetik ortalama ve spearman korelasyon analizi kullanıldı.
Araştırmada öğrencilerin YATÖ puan ortalaması 68.53±6.91 olarak bulundu. Öğrencilerin sosyodemografik özelliklerine göre Yaşlı Ayrımcılığı Tutum Ölçeği (YATÖ) puan ortalamaları incelendiğinde; cinsiyet, mezun olunan okul, kardeş varlığı, aile tipi, yaşanılan yer, anne/babanın öğrenim durumu, anne/babanın çalışma durumu, yaşlı bireyle yaşama durumu ve birlikte yaşanılan yaşlı bireyin yakınlık durumu ile YATÖ arasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmadı. Bu çalışmada, ailesi köy/belde de yaşayan öğrencilerin, Yaşlının Yaşamını Sınırlama alt boyut puanlarının daha yüksek olduğu saptandı. Aynı zamanda, öğrencilerin yaşı arttığında ve yaşlı bireyle birlikte yaşama süreleri azaldığında olumlu tutumun azaldığı saptandı.
Öğrencilerin yaşlı ayrımcılığına ilişkin olumlu tutuma sahip oldukları belirlendi. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin yaşlılara yönelik tutumlarını etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi ve hemşirelik eğitim programlarında, tutumlarını olumlu yönde etkileyecek, bilgi ve becerilerini arttıracak uygulamalara yer verilmesi önerilebilir.

Abstract
This study was planned to determine attitudes toward ageing and factors affecting these among university nursing students.
The sample in this descriptive type research consisted of nursing students (n:307) at a university in the West of Turkey on 1-5 November, 2021. A personal information form and the Ageism Attitude Scale (AAS) were employed as data collection tools. Number and percentage calculations, arithmetic mean, and Spearman correlation analysis were used during data analysis.
The students’ mean AAS score was 68.53±6.91. Examination of mean AAS scores in terms of students’ sociodemographic characteristics revealed no significant association between AAS and sex, school of graduation, presence of siblings, type of family, place of residence, maternal/paternal education status, living together with an elderly individual, or degree of consanguinity with that elderly individual. However, students whose families lived in villages or small towns registered higher Restricting Life of the Elderly sub-dimension scores. At the same time, positive attitudes decreased as age increased and time spent living with an elderly individual decreased.
Students’ exhibited positive attitudes toward ageism. The factors affecting nursing students’ attitudes toward the elderly should be identified and practices aimed at positively affecting those attitudes and increasing students’ knowledge and skills should be included in nursing training programs.
