Abstract

The families in which both family members work are increasingly growing. However, it is observed that the duties and responsibilities of the households assigned to women as gender roles continue. The concept of paternity and the roles attributed to the father have changed from past to present. From the traditional paternity view to the modern paternity view, fathers started to play an active role in household duties and child care. It has been affected by the change in the permission policies of the countries for fathers and has contributed to accelerate the change. Paternity leave policies, which will enable changes in social structure to contribute equally to fathers' sharing of duties in the family, are developing in a more equitable manner and the change in traditional family structure is supported by international agreements and recommendations.
